Honourable Commissioner of Police,

Duplicate reports on the 13th April, 1940, bombing

raids on Sha U Chung (1) by five Japanese

aeroplanes, submitted, please.

There were two raids; one at 10.30 hrs. by three planes and another at approximately 11.10 hrs. by two planes.

2. Judging from attached statements, there is no doubt that the planes flew over British Waters during each of the two raids, as on each occasion one plane passed over the Steam- launch "Tai Pang", which was 1,000 and 3,000 yards from the

shore at the time.

About forty bombs were dropped. Casualties are unknown, but 26 wounded and one dead body have been landed at Tai Po (

consignment of wounded are expected to-day.

4. During the raid, two direct hits were reached on the

Customs House. It is understood that the Customs Staff were

sheltering in a bomb proof dugout and suffered no casualties.
